Our Wedding

Siggi and Marlyn got married on September 12, 2009 in Renton WA. All family, friends and acquaintances were invited and around 170 showed up to help us celebrate. It was a huge success with lots of good food, good music, good company and dancing. We focused on the celebration (i.e. the party) than the ceremony itself. The theme was Hawaiian/Cowboy inspired and as such was very laid back and down home. This was not your traditional wedding ceremony, just some quick "I do's" followed by hours of dancing and visiting with friends. There were even dance lessons to make it both fun and educational.

The ceremony was performed by King County Superior Court Judge Andrea Darvas and lasted about 10 minutes. There was no wedding march or walking down isle. The ceremony started with the national anthem of Iceland which was then followed by the national anthem of the US. At the conclusion we entered the room together lead by the judge. Number of people asked what the lyrics in the Icelandic anthem meant, who performed it, where they could find it, etc. YouTube has a great video of a Scandinavian choir performing the national anthem which also subtitled both in Icelandic and English. Here is the link to it. The version played prior to the ceremony was performed by an Icelandic Church Choir and recorded on the album "Vikivaki: Icelandic Folksongs". I purchased that CD in Iceland about 20 years ago or so, not sure where you could find it today. The US national anthem was performed by LeAnn Rimes and can be downloaded in a MP3 format from Amazon.com
